Project Car

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

The Beginning of Recorded Time...

for this project anyway.

Hello and thanks for stopping by. I'm currently working on a project which will end up being an LM7 powered 240sx. The LM7 is the 5.3 Liter (325 cubic inch) iron-blocked, aluminum headed brother of the LS1. Mild engine modifications will be done before the engine is actually installed, but I will keep the thread updated with pictures and progress as I go.

Why the LM7? A very cost effective entrance into the GM Gen III motor series (one can be found $200 -$500 quite easily), the ability to interchange engine components, and the ability to use a rather compact V-8 engine that is efficient and very responsive to modification all contribute.

Ever since I got rid of my Gen I small-block 280Z, it just made too much sense to go with a V-8. I had several other options to explore: Nissan, Toyota, Ford, even Mopar....GM won the process of elimination. I'm still a bit up in the air as to whether or not I want a 5-speed or 6-speed transmission. I have yet to do much research in this aspect of the project. Most research thus far has surrounded structural innovation, as this will be primarily a street car. The vehicle will rarely see a drag strip, and light to moderate usage is expected on a road course. Please stay tuned for further developments and updates. Pictures will come soon!

Got some pics up of the engine; it arrived last week and is in excellent condition. Now that it's safe and sound in my garage I can re-focus attention on the chassis and suspension. URL to the blog is below. If anyone has any questions or comments, you can leave them here or on the blog:
