I fail to understand the logic on going to the econo SR20 seeing that if you spend the same $$ on building the L4, it will kick the SR20's ***.
Why do you see so many L4 engines stuck into late modle Nissans at SCCA events ?
I am just gathering parts for my L18 that sits in my '74 620 engine bay.
So far I have a mild street cam (268), 40mm side drafts, headers, Big valves, and a few ignition parts. I did a similar set-up a few years ago in a 510, and it would run in the low 14s. No turbo - No Nox.
One of the tricks to the L18, is to find a set of L16 rods (3mm longer), and have someone machine the L18 pistons 3mm shorter. This not only gives you flat-top pistons, but also a much better rod/stroke ratio.
I actual have a set of L14 rods out of Japan that are longer yet (137mm). They match up with a custom set of ROSS pistons that I found on eBay (there actually is good stuff on eBay, not just Taiwan tail lights).
But if you are dead set on having a twin cam engine, go with the CA18.I does not have the stupid rocker arm set-up that plagues the SR.
A complete front clip w/ 5-speed, ECU $ wiring will set you back about $1500.
I have an article on dropping the whole IRS out of a 510 into the 620, and I may have to do it if I can not find an LSD for the trucks solid axle soon.
I located a set of ADDCO sway bars thru Summit Racing, and considering (if I find the damn LSD) doing a 4-link rear suspension with coil overs.
