Update!!!
Started to work on it again today. Jon came down and we fitted up the SSAutochrome header and his MASSIVE GT25R. Here is where we stand....
Pretty much got everything that needs to come off the motor to pull it off. Coolant is drained, harness pulled through the fire wall and laying on the motor, fuel lines are undone, motor mounts are unbolted, transmission mount is unbolted. Only thing left to do is pull the shifter, remove rear coolant lines, and pull it.
I got all that done then Jon and Robin showed up. He whipped out the manifold and the ungodly huge GT25R and wanted to mock it up, said he could have the manifold off in 20 minutes tops. We got the top bolts undone easily and the two bolts on the bottom side out too, then moved onto the two near the rear of the motor. Well..... after just deciding I didnt' need the stock hard lines for the coolant and oil feed we just cut them off to get some clearance to get to the rear bolts. And by god we had that manifold off in under a half hour.
First we bolted his GT25R up to the SSautocrome manifold and slid it onto the motor. Welp, problem number one..... the compressor hits the motor mount. There are only 2 possible ways around this, making a custom motor mount which uses the A/C bracket holes or cutting the motor mount in half. We decided it is absolutely retarded to make custom mounts to run a 200 dollar manifold, so more than likely he is going to have to get a top mount. We took the SS header, flipped it around and mocked up a top mount, and that GT25R looks mean as hell top mounted. So the GT25R will work, but you will have to do some major modification to the motor mount to get it in there, I cannot stress enough how huge this thing is. I took some pictures of it, but left the camera at the garage, they will be posted tomorrow night.
Then it came to my turbos turn. I thought the T28 was kinda big, but I was having serious problems getting over how big that GT25R was, so my T28 just started to look a bit puny. I bolted it up to the SS manifold and then I also installed the Megan Racing o2 housing I bought from ebay. Bolted it to the motor, busted out the HKS downpipe and it all fit together very nicely. So everything should be rockin' when it all goes back together.
Jon had also brought me a new back half to his old turbo that seized up to take care of the broken stud problem in my T28. First thing we noticed, my T28 does not have the wastegate divider wall in it, his housing does though, so I guess we found out that he was actually running an S15 turbo and not an S14 like he thought. Or that my turbo was not truly a ball bearing T28, but I have checked the numbers on the center section and they match to T28 bb turbos. Kinda odd.
Well.... we got 5 of the 6 bolts off the backhalf, and one of them was just being plain stubborn. After weighing our options and deciding that this back half was junk anyway we just cut the head off the bolt that was stuck..... problem number two of the night... THE DAMN HOUSING WILL NOT COME OFF THE TURBO!!! We pried, pulled, banged, turned, everything, this thing will not budge. It was getting kinda late and the old lady called twice wanting to know when I was coming home, so we decided to call it a night. I soaked the backhalf in some WD40 and let it sit for the night. Hopefully when I get back to work on it tomorrow it will bust loose, if not, I am in some serious trouble since I've about destroyed the S14 backhalf that is on it.
So as it stands, the motor will be out tomorrow and on the stand. I should be able to get the mounts off and get them filled with urethane. Get the flywheel off and get it machined down. Get the fuel injectors in. Get the harness reworked, I want to get back and solder all my butt connectors and reshrink wrap it. Basically have it all ready to go for Tuesday and have it back in the car.
Pics to come tomorrow!
