No quite finished, but taking shape. Big thanks to Richard (frontier2k1)!

Still got some things to finish up, but I will get it done quickly. Just glad to have some steel on the front end again.

The old (busted up in GA)

The New.....bigger and better!

i couldn't tell you what the specs are, but this bumper incorporates 1.75", 1.5" and 1.25" tube. richard (my fab guy) orders all the steel before i show up and i really just get involved in design and fabrication. i'll have to ask him.

nice desert rat! does that tube turn back and connect into the frame or subframe for support? still trying to decide how to better brace mine.

clear is dry and lights are on. came out pretty good.

sorta...there's a custom brent 1/4 stock bracket that bolts to the end of the bumper into a welded nut and endcap, and goes down and bolts on top of the body mount. It's not the most stable thing in the world, but it will allow me to use a hi-lift on the front of the truck. It would need substantially more gusseting if I were to add a winch.

thanks desert rat. i had been thinking about and talking with richard about bracing back to the body mount as well.

i am also thinking about running tube from behind the lower outer portion of hte bumper back through the wheel well (keeping it high and tight) to connect to the frame behind the tire or basically under the seats. could then maybe use the tube through the wheel well as a shock hoop mount for the eventual sas.

just a thought.

thanks.

That's a good idea...tie it back into your slider and use it for fender protection in the trees. A reinforcement down to the frame ahead of the wheel would double its strength.

finally got the center plate installed! let me know what you think.

didn't end up using stainless. the guy with the shear said he could not do it. said he would need a bigger shear, but did go ahead and shear off a piece of aluminum. Freebie! (thanks for handling everything richard!)

i orginally installed the aluminum plate without any holes. just the full plate. it looked good, but i found out a couple of days later that it wasn't going to work. ~70mph on a 95 degree day with the AC on max and the truck started to overheat. i guess no air flow through the skid and 4 hella's up top just wasn't going to cut it.

so....1.5 drills and 24 hours later it has 4 new holes. i think it looks better than it did without.

hope it works well. i don't see why it wont. gotta pull everything this weekend....wire wheel the bumper again and clear coat again. shouldn't take too long, but its a pain the ***!

here are the pics.

later.
