Hi Again:

Getting another project out of the way -- programming the factory remotes. My car did not come with any remotes, but I located two in excellent condition and programmed them successfully last night. All the functions work correctly, but for some reason, the parking lights do not flash when arming or disarming the system.

I heard there is a way to turn the lights on and off by holding one or more of the remote buttons down for a specificed amount of time. Does anyone out there know how to do this? I would prefer to have the lights flash so I know whether the system is armed or disarmed instead of standing right next to the car and hearing the locks click.

Thanks everyone for your assistance and encouragement.

I will also post whatever I find out.

Never heard of that, but it should be detailed in the OM which is free for download.

If it locks, I guess we can presume the correct FCC numbers are present.

My lights never flashed when I used to lock mine with the remote. Where did you find the remote? I looking to purchase one.

*** Update ***

Okay, here's what I found after some searching. Thank you BTW on the above responses. I will check the OM and see what I find.

I found a post under the QX4 and Pathfinder forum section that talked about disarming the factory alarm horn "chirp", but it did not discuss activating the parking lights. According to the post, if you hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously on the remote for 2-5 secs, you should see the lights flash 3 times and your horn beep will be disabled. Press it again for the same amount of time and it should activate the horn beep. Now, whether that also activates my lights remains to be seen. I do know that after I programmed my remotes, there were no parking lights flashing or horn beep, so maybe I am on to something.

As far as the replacement factory remotes, I found a guy in California that I purchased two for $24.95 each plus $6.00 shipping which is a steal. If you want to contact him and see whether he has any additional remotes available his Ebay member name is auto.part and hew runs the Auto Part Superstore. Last I checked, he did not have any listed in his store, but he may have additional remotes not posted yet.

I will test the remotes tonight qand let you know what I find out.

I checked the OM and it does not say anything about activating or deactivating the parking lights for the alarm. I also tried the hold lock and unlock buttons down and all that did was deactivate the remote. The trunk release still worked, but I had to un program both remotes and reprogram them. I think one of my remotes has a dead battery, so I will buy two new ones and reprogram them a thrid time.

If anyone knows how to activate the flashing parking lights when arming and disarming the system, please chime in.

Thanks!!!

Another Update:

I downloaded the FSM and discovered the BCM (body control module) partially controls whether the parking lights will flash when arming and disarming the system along with the multi remote relay (keyless entry module in the trunk). The BCM receives a signal from the keyless module and activates the lights. The dealer said the keyless units have a tendency to go bad so I am looking for a replacement. He said it's possible the BCM is going bad, but not as likely. I also looked up used BCMs just in case. I have a line out to Bullitandy for his keyless unit from his 97 parts car.

In response to 3Q Jay, the Infiniti alarm system is supposed to flash the parking lights once on arm and twice on disarm. The horn beep is optional and can be turned on and off by pressing and holding the lock and unlock buttons for 2-5 secs. When I tried that with each remote, I thought my remotes were deactivated becasue nothing worked on them (no panic alarm or trunk release either), but I think the batteries on both were almost dead. I picked up two new batteries today, but won't try it until I install a different keyless unit.

So far, everything else works as it should, even all the cigaratte lighters and 12v plug in the center console. My next step is to repair the defroster lines on my rear window. I have less than half of them working and will have to use a circuit probe and tinfoil to see where the lines got damaged during the damn tint removal. I really hate that crap, but at least I can see out my rear window as long as it doesn't fog up.

There is just a laundry list of little things to do on the Q, but nothing earth shattering or complicated. It is starting to get a little warmer here (only 4 degrees this morning) and should be 40 by Monday, so I will try and snap a few pictures of my new baby.

Hope this finds you all well and have a good one!!

Gotta love Infiniti (Nissan) engineering. I was trying out my keyless when suddenly it stops working. Nothing. Then, I looked in the car and saw the left rear door lock is still unlocked. Tried the drivers key cylinder -- no luck. Even tried the master switch on the drivers door panel. It would unlock the left rear if I clicked it to the lock position, but would not lock it. All of the other three doors worked fine. Tried the windows, and all four worked correctly.

Finally, I bit the bullet and removed the door panel to see whether there was a broken wire or something. Everything seemed to check out ok with my tester, so I figured I would try something -- I removed the window switch and bezel from the passenger rear door (simple, one screw) and plugged it into the drivers rear door. Voila!! it worked the window and lock correctly.

So, I learned the rear window switches also control the power door locks, which could explain why my keyless is not working right. As a precaution, I bought the window switch and the multi remote relay (keyless module) from Bullitandy and will install both and see if that solves the door lock and parking light flash problems I am having.

I figured the drivers rear lock must not have worked right since I bought the car, because honestly, when you hear the power locks operate most people would assume they are all working. I never looked at the drivers rear door or tried it after I locked the car with the master switch. I guess it finally shorted out the power lock connection which is why the keyless began to work off and on yesterday and then finally quit. That is the last switch I would have thought would control the power locks, but you gotta hand it to the engineers.

Will post more once I receive the parts.

Hi There:

I also posted this thread in the Infiniti electronics/security section. After I installed teh reaplcement window switch, my keyless worked fine as far as locking and unlocking. I only got the lights to flash two times when the system is armed, but there are no flashes on disarming. I am fine with that at this point and am not going to diagnose it further.

Now, because I butchered my rear window defroster lines and keyless lines, I am slowly repairing them. I finally got my keyless antennae working again so I don't have to stand right next to the car for the keyless to work.
