So I have had my 98 QX for a while now. Still love the thing. But, there is one "odd duck" thing about it I cannot figure out. Sometimes when I lock the doors with the FOB the parking lights front and rear flash on lock function. Other times I get no flash but doors still lock. Also there is no honk of the horn on lock like other vehicles (or even a little chirp like my Toyota's).

Another thing is when you unlock there is no visible indication the vehicle received the code like again a light flash or horn honk or a chirp from the system.

So the questions. Why do the lights sometimes flash and sometimes not? Can it be reprogrammed to flash and chirp or honk on both lock and unlock? I have 2 FOBS and they both operate the same erratic way. The panic button does work so I know the fob is capable of causing the vehicle to make noise.

Try holding both lock and unlock buttons on the Fob. It enables or disables the horn honking function. I personally leave it off because I get home late sometimes and don't want to wake my neighbors by locking my doors. I think you have to hold them for 4 or 5 seconds. Then the horn should honk to let you know that you have enabled that setting.

I tried this but never get a honk. SO I was thinking maybe it's for later models?
