Programming built in garage door opener on '01 SE

Ok, so this might sound stupid. As some of you know I just picked up an '01 Maxima SE about a week ago. I did not get an owner's manual with the vehicle. When I had a buddy over to look at it last weekend, he informed me that these buttons on the drivers side fold down mirror/visor can be set up to use as a built in garage door opener? Does anyone know anything about this? I'd never heard of such a thing myself but my last car was a '96. So is this possible to set up, if so how? or is my buddy just nuts? thank you for any help given.
