We lost a key fob of our 08 G37, so we ordered another one off the web. However we live near where the remote was lost, so we want to de-program the car from that remote, but make sure it works with the original remote we had and the new remote we ordered. Can anybody summarize the steps I need to take here? I see the instructions for programming a new remote, but how do I de-program an old one?

Best advice is to let the dealer handle this one. You can look at the FSM (link in my sig) for the procedures, but I'm pretty sure you need a special interface tool.

You mean the de-activation? The reason I ask is because they quoted something absurd like $150 for something that can be learned on YouTube in 3 minutes, so I figured the whole thing was a cash grab.

Can we have them deactivate the old one and re program the new one ourselves to save a couple hundred bucks?

I think that is not possible and it was not meant to be reprogrammed in the first place. But agreed on the point that it is a cash grab. Really need an fix now on it.

In order to link FOB (Keys) to a car or reprogram them so another one will not work, it will require a reprogramming from the dealer.

It cost the wife $235 after the remote was lost in the first week of owning here new 2013 Altima

Who works for nothing these days?

Try calling a plumber, electrician or an air conditioning repair person and see how much they charge just to walk in the door
