I would like to install a remote starter but I need another programmed key for the remote starter and I already have 2 but want to keep those and get a 3rd one to put into the remote. Since they sell those keys so expensively, I would like to know how to program the transponder to accept the 3rd key...

What's the procedure? The sequence to do?

I heard that with 2 programmed keys I could do this!

You would have to get a bypass unit to install with the remote starter and use the second key while programming the unit. There are units that will use the key all the time but there are some that only uses the key while programming. I don't know the procedure for a DIY though. I'm sure the procedure of how to do it would be in the manual.

Only dealers and certified Locksmiths can do the programming. I bought three keys on Ebay for about $13 each and had the local locksmith cut them. The programming fee between the dealer and locksmith were the same so I had the dealer program the security system to accept the three new keys so I ended up with five. Cost $50. The key FOB is also available on Ebay and can be programmed by the owner if they have the two original Key Fobs. I hope that the next time I purchase a new vehicle I remember to investigate the key programming to see if it can be done without bringing it to the dealer. If it cannot be done by myself I would consider another vehicle. All my other vehicles allowed the owner to program extra keys by themselves.

some dealers actually take it to a locksmith because they do not have the equipment.
