On my last car I just had a local muff shop put on the best "performance" muff they had and it cost me 200 bux. It wasn't bad at all. You pay big bux for apexi and blitz whereas this muff I had bought has a full lifetime warrenty, is quality made stainless steel and has very little or no difference in performance. I'm more budget orientated and would not waste money on a top brand "racing" muffler when you can get one just as good for half the price.

Just my opinion

What brand does the local shop carry?

WHAT YOU ARE FORGETTING BEFORE YOU TELL HIM THIS, is that apexi and hks do massive research on exhaust design. Your custom race muffler is NOT going to flow better then a apexi. Thats why you pay the big bucks man. CARS = $$$ .. SORRY!

Hit up Ebay if you're worried about the price of a name brand muffler. I got a brand new Tanabe Tuner Medallion muffler for $102, it retails for $248.

Like GEO said, cars=$$$. My mods are pretty much few and far between, but every time I do something new I fall back in love with her

Get a exhaust thats made for your car,Most of these brands like Apexi,HKS,Greddy, all dyno for the very best power gains,And they always sound alot better too.I had a custom made exhaust on my ka,Then i got the hks hiper, and it felt a little faster and the sound was way better.

i would do custom in a heartbeat. buy all the mandrels and the muffler/resonator combo you want, and have them put it all together.

That's why some people take the bus.

I was just saying there are reasonable alternatives for half the cost.

...Lets be 100% honest... if you're not making 250+ hp, different exhaust stylings aren't going to make all that big of a difference... maybe .5 HP as long as pipe size is the same...piping is piping .... I spent 200 for my exhaust... engine back with test pipe, and got a nice Tanabe muffler... costed me like 340 total. Now, go ahead and spend that extra 200 on a underdrive pulley or something if you're that desperate for power.
