Hello all,

Finally sourced some figures we have been looking for since early rumors appeared about cancellation of the Coupe. I'm going to make it easy on myself and simply copy/paste my recent correspondence with a gentleman from Autopacific, an automotive industry tracking company.

Keep in mind the numbers are by calendar year, not model year.

You may want to read this from the bottom up.

Best wishes.

Steve,

We track sales in calendar years, not model years. 2008 models would have been sold in mid to late 2007, prior to Jan 1, 2008. The coupes we forecast being sold in 2014 calendar year represent sales of ending 2013 models based on our analysis of when production will end and sales rate.

Ron

Ron,

Thank you very much for sharing the numbers!

Just a clarification, please.

I'm sure the first model year for the Coupe was 2008 (mine!) and the last year was 2013, when the unchanged 2012 was carried over. That being said, there seems to be a issue with the production years of the figures you sent. I'll be sharing your email with the Coupe Forum, and everyone there will be as puzzled as I. What am I missing?

I promise this won't become a "tar baby" :-).

Many thanks.

Hi Steve,

As a forum member for the brand I drive, I completely understand your interest and enthusiasm. We do not track actual production numbers, but we do have sales information for the U.S. which our internal team of expert analysts were pleased to share with you and your forum members on this very limited basis.

The following numbers are US sales history and forecast for the Altima Coupe for 2007-2014:

Nissan Altima Coupe Sales (000)

2007- 20.5
2008- 38.0
2009- 23.5
2010- 20.7
2011- 21.4
2012- 17.1
2013- 18.1
2014- 16.6

All of us at AutoPacific wish you all many years and miles of happy and safe driving!

Ron

Hello,

Congratulations for your contributions to Car and Driver "New Cars for 2014" graphic in the September issue. Took a few minutes to crack the code but ultimately, very informative.

I'm writing on behalf of members of the Altima Coupe Forum, who have been sadly anticipating the demise of our model for quite a while. A question we have been looking to answer is build numbers for the Coupe over its production run. Altima numbers have been easy to come by, but Coupe figures, not so much.

Hate to ask for something you folks are usually paid to research, but just wondering if you could do us a favor and find those numbers?

Thanks

With numbers dropping like this it's no wonder Nissan is eliminating the coupe. Let's face it the coupe version of any mid size car, like the Altima, is never going to have the sell number's of it's 4 door counterpart. It's almost impossible to design a decent looking coupe without reducing the back seat to a size that can only accommodate a small child. They are just too impractical for the masses. Also Nissan's decision to the eliminate of the 6 spd option in the coupe didn't help either.

Since it is basically in the same size category as the Altima it will be interesting to see if the coupe version of the Hyundai Genesis suffers the same fate in a few years.

Hyundai genesis is nothing like the AC though, it's competition is with Mustangs Toyobarus, and Z cars.
