First off, 1221 miles is effectively new. It was probably a dealer test drive car, which I believe can be sold as a new car. Even if that's not the case, you should have seen the odometer reading before buying it and discussed that at that time.
Second, why did you let him convince you to buy a manual car when you didn't want one and did not have any significant experience in one?
To be honest, you bought the car and, most likely, your lack of experience caused the failure.
That said, I would pursue the dealer as well and have them check EVERYTHING, because if there was anything even remotely wrong with the car when they sold it to you, then yeah, you have grounds for them to take it back and give you your money back.
Unfortunately, it does not qualify as a lemon yet. Lemons generally must have chronic problems, not just a single massive failure.
To be honest, you're at a massive disadvantage here, because you bought the car and signed off that it was new, you bought the car without experience driving a manual car and it failed, and you're young. While the dealer definitely took advantage of you and pushed you into the sale, legally you're probably responsible for everything.
That said, best of luck. Hopefully the car was bunk and the sleazeball salesman will get what he deserves.
