I have a '76 280Zshe has gone through 3 starters in the last year. the most recent one worked just once before dying. I am getting 10V back at the starter when i turn her over, does that seem right, is the voltage too low for it to fire, or is that burning up the starter somehow? the car has been sitting for a while, i am also concerned the fuel bad, how likely is it there is crap; in the fuel tank jamming up; the starter? when i drain some out it looks fine.thanks

are the starters new or used? you might want o make sure oyu have good cables and good solic connections at both ends of both battery cables, with a gold ground to the chassis as well as the motor

and be sure to take a good look at the positive lead coming off the starter and alternator make sure theer connections are clean and secure, and check all of your fusible link connections as well

one was new two were used. it turns over just fine, when i put a new one in it fires right off as was the case for this last one, it ran for about 30 minutes then I turned it off it was running fine at that point...wouldn't start again...... i've looked at those connections, they look fine, but maybe need cleaning

low voltage at the starter isn't going to burn it up, the used ones likely just reached the end of their lives, the new one, well you coudl have gotten a bad one, if you are only getting 10v then either you have a bad battery or a lot of bad connections dropping the voltage
