The first problem I have is when my car is parked and I go inside my house the lights start flashing. If I open up the trunk and close it they stop, but then in about 5 min. it will start again. Last night we just disconnected the battery because it wouldn't stop. The car smells like gas really bad especially after I put gas in the tank, it seems like there is gas dripping out of the place where i put the gas in, Do I need a new gas cap? Sorry If there are obvious answers I don't really know that much about this car. I just bought it a week ago. :help thank you

Hmmm.... The lights thing is sorta weird..... id unplug the battery for 24 hours and see if that helps..... There are many electrical gremlins roaming around in the Q, and unplugging the battery usually remedies them......!! Ive fixed EVERY electrical problem on my car so far by unplugging the battery.....

Gas thing I dont know, but you'll wanna get that checked out, because gas dripping in bad places isnt good....... Can you locate more where it smells.... Can you smell it in the car..... is it worse in the trunk??? The first thing Id do is undo the trunk liner by the fuel tank and see what you can see or smell....

Welcome to the site. It may well be the fuel filler connection. Do you have pressure when you release the cap?

The light flashing leads me to ask if you (or the prevous owner) have modified the system?

Have you changed the timing chain guides? Do you have a history of dealer supplied services to the car?

If the answer is no (or even, yes), do spend some time reading the previous posts and you will learn a whole lot about your new vehicle.

I will try disconnecting the battery for 24 hours, it was disconnected all last night, and it hasn't done it yet tonight so, hopefully it worked. That is where I smell it the worst is inside the car, I can smell it a little in the trunk. It seems worse with the windows up though. thank you for the help

there is no pressure when I release the cap, and I don't know anything about anything previously done to the car. Where could I get that info?

Johnny, please do a search on "service history" and you will discover the two methods. Didn't the prevous owner have records, or did it come off a car lot?__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

yes, that is obvious, that is what I thought it was, but it goes off all the time for no reason and The only way I can get it to turn off is by unlocking the trunk and shutting it. weird alarm

If it's the security system, check all the little rubber "boots" which cover the actual switches for the doors, trunk AND hood.

The ones on my "new" old Q had become torn, and anytime the car moved, it could set off the alarm.

Just something to check, I doubt it's the root cause, but it's worth a look.
