i put in a new alternator on a month ago. and after i did i replaced a couple fuses, for interior lights and drivers seat. i noticed that once i started the car the radio sound would cut out when i stepped on the ignition. and return when i depress the brake pedal. this would continue until the climate control fan speed got up to four. i let the car sit for around ten minutes after driving it a short distance and a head light blew. the next day all the rest of my head lights blew, first my remaining low beam and then when i turned on the highs they went. after this i continued to drive it for a few days, i noticed all my interior light seemed xtra bright when i turned on the head lights, with blown bulbs, all the lights dimmed a great deal. i took the car to a garage in town and told them of the symptoms.two days later i pick up my car and they tell me the alternator is fine and not throwing surges, they replaced the head lights, and sent me on my way. when i got in the car the radio volume was all the way down and the climate control off, i turned up the radio and on the heat and immediatley the ABS light came on,lights started dimming, i made it half a mile from the garage before i pulled into a parking lot. i turned off the car called the garage and got back in the car, it will not start. says low battery and clicks upon attempting to start.

any ideas.belts slipping?

i really need help. these thieves charged me three hundred buck to tell me they found nothing and then left me stranded.

Obviously a charging system problem- was the alternator a factory genuine Nissan/Infiniti part, or a cheapie chain store rebuilt part?

Certainly sounds like it- measure voltage at battery with a digital multimeter at idle with engine at idle speed and revved up to about 2500rpm and post results

I measured voltages up to about 18vdc a few years back when my voltage regulator failed in my alternator. Windows rolled up/down super fast!

Get the alternator replaced...if you can work it out financially, spring for the better OEM model. It's just too much work to replace it in this car and will probably be cheaper in the long run.

Hopefully your experience will help prove the need to use a genuine nissan alternator to the next newbie trying to save a few bucks!

At least you got it fixed quickly before it did extensive damage to the really expensive electronic modules and on-board computers!

At least you learned! Are they $300 from Joe? That's probably about right.

Found out today that the plastic ornamental covers for the valley of the coil packs on the later VH45DE valve covers are $80 each.
