so i ended up getting a chip from pulsar_gtr today (thank you so much, you're awesome), plugged the chip in, went to start the car and as soon as i turn the key, solenoids start clicking in the engine bay. My ACC relay is steady opening/closing causing the ac clutch to engage/disengage and my F.I.C.D. Solenoid valve is also constantly being activated/deactivated. Needless to say, the car doesn't start. I can hear the fuel pump turning on, though I haven't checked for spark yet. Can anyone tell me off the top their head whats wrong? Was my ecu socketed wrong? could i have a bad soldier joint somewhere, or do i not have my eprom chip pushed in all the way? I can swap back to the stock ecu and it starts up fine, so its not my wiring thats an issue.

Use a multimeter to check continuity between the pins on the socket and the traces on the backside of the board. Also, depending on who it was socketed by, make sure they did a clean job and no two solder points are touching one another on the backside of the board. Lastly, you didn't put the chip in backwards, did you?

I got a bad chip recently too. One thing you could check is put in your stock chip and if it works then the socketing was done right.

The chip should only go in one way, look at the top of the chip and one has a groove.

i definitely lined up the notches on the chip and the socket.

i think the fist two on the bottom row might be touching. is there any way that i can clean that myself? does anyone have a diagram/pinout for the socket and what each one does?

I don't really have the luxury of installing my stock chip because i purchased an extra ecu that was socketed, and my original one isn't, so unfortunately, i can't just swap chips. I did search and find that some of the ecus are joined at those two pins, 27 and 28 so i don't think thats my problem.

ALL CA18 ECU's Ive looked at have pins 27 and 28 connected by track on the board.

pin 28 is power, 27 is (depending on chip type) an address line (in which case you're running from the top 'bank' all the time, which is normal if you haven't bypassed that to setup bank switches external) or program enable (older smaller chips - enabled by pulling it low to ground, so by holding it high keeps it from being accidentally reprogrammed). In either case it don't matter.

Hi nnkfws333,

Do you know 100% that your ecu is good?if so, when you installed the chip, did you install it in backwords, if so, the chip is toasted. What is the # on your Chip 27CXXXX?

Where did you get your chip? what mods is it set for?

Good luck,
