Hey

My CA is ready to start but it won't.

The motor cranks and I can hear the fuel pump cycling. I pulled the plugs and I'm not getting any spark. I want to test the Ignitor chip but who do I go about doing so?

Also sometimes when I connect the battery a relay clicks for a few seconds and while the motors cranking the tachometer does NOT move.

I guess first would be to check for codes?

thanks for the help

I did the wiring, and this was my first time. I used Heavy throttles guide and soldered and taped each individual connection.

I'm still stumped on how this works.

I used the instructions on frsport.com and mine started perfect the first time. Try comparing the instructions.

I mounted it on the passenger side shock tower, where I removed the PS resivor (SOHC) 3 of the 4 holes lined up and i just drilled another one right quick. Looks factory too!

Anywho I printed out about 5 pages of info, thanks for the help guys!

Ill try first to:

-Remove and reinstall the ECM connector and make sure its tight to the ECM.

-Recheck all of my wiring with Frsport's guide and make sure each wire is connected and taped off correctly.

-Check all of the harness grounds according to the FSM.

If none of the problems are their I'll test the ECM/Ignitor chip.

I'll do so by using a multi meter to check for ignition pulses before the chip and after the chip.

And not to forget to check the ECM for codes itself.

Sound like a good battle plan?

Noo I had the SOHC and for the swap I need the DOHC lines, resivor ect. all of which are mounted on the drivers side shock tower. If the motor was originally DOHC their should be 3 or 4 plugs on the passenger side shock tower. Just remove the plugs and insert the screws.

Ill try to take a pic for you tommorow

Dont you have the black metal mounting point on the back of the block for your ignitor box? thats where it normaly goes.

Well today didn't goto good, I ended just getting frustrated.

I found out I used the original Body harness plug off the Ca harness meaning the pins didn't line up for crap to the 240 body harness. Stupid mistake, my fault.

Cut and resoldered the wires, rechecked then rechecked the engine room harness.

Got it to crank, nothing, pulled the plugs smelt like gas bad, pulled all 4 plugs and cranked to remove gas (thought it was flooded) Let it sit for about an hour reinstalled the plugs, still nothing. Pulled 1 plug and coil, was getting a weak spark on and off and when I would let go of the key I would get a regular looking spark.

Also when I plug'd in the body harness the fuel pump relay would click like crazy for about 10 seconds, tried switching relays, same thing, same place, fuel pump relay. So I thought I might not be getting fuel. Pulled the feed line after the filter, when the motor is cranking it shoots a lot of fuel out, BUT when the key is switched to the on position, as if to prime the pump, nothing happens.

I checked the wiring for the fuel pump black with pink stripe to black with pink stripe. I have no idea whats a matter, and no one else does around my town.

I dunno does anyone have any ideas to what the hell is wrong here, I have compression, but fuel? and spark?

God Its probably something little and its driving me nuts.

Thanks guys.

EDIT: I probably want to regap the plugs seeing as I don't even know what to gap them to.

So what do you gap CA18DET plugs too?

EDITEDIT: oh yea just remembered the Tach still isn't moving when I crank the motor over. Just another thing to think about.

You may be right, but I just bought the whole sha bam for 60 bucks

zerothread?id=233815

So if I were going to use PS on a CA18det and had a SOHC I would just get the whole thing to make things easier.

Good luck man, the powersteering was the easy part, getting it running, thats another story... lol

Hey guys can you do my a favor,

WHen I first connect my battery I hear the EGI and also the EGI pump relay clicking like mad. They'll continue to do so until I crank the car.

What should I check first, I know some wiring is messed up somewhere but any suggestions?

Also my parking brake light and seat belt light stay on ALL of the time, even after I remove my key. I think my ECM is not getting power due to its relay grounding out somewhere.

Any tips would be GREATLY appericated!

Thanks guys!
