So this weekend I decided to tackle putting in component speakers to replace the crap that comes from the factory. Everything went pretty smooth except for a weird glitch I'm getting now. I'm sure you're all aware of the beep that the car makes if you close your door with the keys inside. Somehow the car detects whether a human is inside as well so that it doesn't beep every time you get into your car... which is exactly what is happening. I think something just needs to be reset, but I'm not sure what. I did the airbag reset, and as far as I know the driver seat doesn't have a weight sensor like the passenger seat does. Any ideas?

My second issue is that throughout the day of doing the install, I ended up draining the battery. Late that night I showed a friend the new speakers and everything worked fine, but in the morning it was dead. I jumped it just fine, but now the radio doesn't work. It turns on and off and the volume is adjustable, but all other buttons do nothing which is really sad because I couldn't listen to my new speakers on my way to work today :frown:. Any ideas on that?

I'm sorry that it's a problem that brought you here but I'm glad you found us!

Our Juke freaks out from time to time and does something similar and the Juke is completely stock. Oddly enough it usually happens when we're in a particular Buffalo Wild Wings parking lot. :gotme In your instance could it be that there is an additional key fob still in the car as an alert to not try and lock the car?

That sounds like a short in the system somewhere causing a power drain but the fact that after a jump there were some non-functional buttons is a little strange. I'll check with some of the audio old-timers and see if anyone has any ideas. Can you give some details on the setup that you converted from and what you replaced everything with?

Welcome to NICO! :badger

Thanks for the quick reply and warm welcome!

There is definitely not an additional fob in the car, as when I get out (with the key) and lock it, everything works normal. The issue arises when I get *in* the car and shut the door, it seems to think just the key has entered the car, not the key and the driver. I'm not sure how it's normally supposed to detect the driver but it isn't. The weird thing is that this problem started happening very early in my install. All that had been removed were the door panels and window switches.

The audio setup is really basic, just replaced the speakers and ran new wire. I trimmed the output wires coming out of the back of the head unit and spiced in my new wire. Both speakers and tweeters worked fine before the dead battery so I know there's nothing weird going on there. The only "dangling wires" would be the ends of the speaker outputs, which are connected to the now dangling connectors for the old speakers. All of that is dead copper and shouldn't be touching anything either.

So I solved the radio issue with a simple unplug/plug in. Weird that the battery messed it up but whatever, I can enjoy my new speakers now.

The beeping thing though is really annoying. Does anyone have any idea how the car detects if there is a person inside or not? I know the passenger seat has a weight sensor, but as far as I can tell from the manual and service manual the driver seat does not.
