So I've been ironing out all the kinks since my auto/5 spd swap and I've come across something I'm having trouble figuring out. When I accelerate the rpms seem to jump up instead smoothly increasing. Now its not the gauges, I tried 3 sets just to be sure and its not really noticeable unless you watch the rpms. Basically I'm jut wondering if anyone has any ideas. It doesnt happen when I'm in neutral (revving is smooth without interruption).

Anyone?

I would say that your neck would be the best measure of acceleration.

Forget the gauges... don't even look at them... When you step on it, do you feel any hesitation or inconsistent acceleration?

If you do feel things are inconsistent, I would agree with Biggie that your clutch might be the culprit.

I'll second that as well. If you have a good ear you may be able to hear the difference in exhaust tone as well.

Does it drive normal? Like, does it A. accelerate the way it should when you're in gear and you give it gas but the RPM gauge just doesn't match? Or B. you can feel that it's not accelerating the way it's suppossed to?

If it's B it's your clutch that's slipping, simple. If it's A and you said it's not the gauge itself since you tried a few, then I'm thinking it might be in the harness itself?

Sorry... I like to bring a little comedy to things. .

But I would also jump on the slipping-clutch bandwagon; mainly because you said that it doesnt do it in neutral..

When does it occur most often? What RPM range?

The other question to determine if this could possibly be a slipping clutch is this;

How high or low does the clutch pedal engage when you start to drive? If your pedal is almost fully released when it actually starts to grab, more than likely you clutch is going, going, gone.

If that's not the case, how about this... Do you have an oil consumption problem? Find yourself adding a quart here or there? If so, are there puddles on the ground? The reason I ask this question is because your rear main seal could be leaking. If it were leaking, the oil can contaminate the clutch disc. It can also mix with the clutch dust and cause a greasy slimy mess inside your bell housing.

I actually ran into this exact scenario at work about a month ago. A guy with a Miata came in cause his clutch was slipping, took it apart and what a mess!!! New clutch and rear main later, problem fixed!

Wow sorry guys it took me forever to respond to this one. I'm actually not new my old username was 93vert240 but for some reason I could not retrieve the account and was forced to make a new one. Basically I think it could definitely be the clutch but it shouldn't be. It's a fairly new stage 2 clutch. I definitely get some hesistation during periods of acceleration and the needle is very inconsistent during these times. I may just have to get a new clutch which kind of sucks considering it feels like only yesterday I did my swap lol.
