I checked my timing today and it seems like its at 13 degree. Is this bad for my car?

Did you disconnect the TPS sensor connector before you used your timing light? It will read incorrectly if you didn't. Disconnect the harness, start your car (make sure your car is nice and warm when you do this), rev it a few times and then proceed to check the timing.

I thought you only had to disconnedt the TPS if you wanted to adjust the timing. What you read with the light is what it is.

In my FSM it says to "check" the timing you must disconnect the TPS. Otherwise you'll get a false reading. You also adjust it while it is disconnected, and only re-connect it after your done. Something to due with the ECU adjusting the timing at idle for emissions I believe.

It will advance it to lean out the mixture. I just adjusted mine last night (it was at 30 degrees BTDC, ouch!) and after I reconnected the TPS it read almost at 10 BTDC, not 20 BTDC where I adjusted it with it disconnected.
