Problem with the trunk lid.

Hey, Well today when I was trying to put something in my trunk, I had opened from the inside. When I came to lift the lid, I heard this noise. Them the lid wouldnt go up or come down and close.

I had to drive home with it open. Now, I removed the panel which covers the gas tank in the trunk. For now, I disconnected the rods that hold the lid from falling down when its open(or all the way up). The rods are located behind the seat/gas tank.

My question is, have any of you guys go through this same problem? What can be wrong? I am so confused.

Also, would you any of you guys have a diagram of what the rods (that help hold the lid up) should looks like when they are in place. I hope you guys know what I am talking about. If not, I will look in the book and give you the name.

Help me out here please. It seems like I have little problems like these all the time. I even baby my car...it can be annoying at times

I know what you're talking about, but I've never heard of a problem with them... Hopefully one of our J30 gurus will have a suggestion for you. It's always helpful to look at another identical car if you can find one... if nothing else you could search a few car lots or junk yards over the weekend for comparison.

You probably knocked the torsion spring off while jamming crap into that small trunk. That happened to me years ago with my Slant 6, 3 on the tree Valiant. The spring popped right back into place but I haven't checked the set up on the J.
