my 2007 g35 coupe 5at has 2200 miles on it. for about 1000 miles ive been hearing this odd whistling noise in first gear when its getting ready to shift into second. havent really heard it in any of the higher gears. is this a problem? it starts right before it goes to shift until its done shifting to second.

Nismodan69:

I also have an 07 6MT Coupe with 18K + on it. I had the same issue. It appears the whistling noise comes from somewhere around the pulley and belts. I took my car in a couple of times to get the issue resolved, and they could do nothing about it. So, I have learnt to live with it.

I had earlier posted on one topic about the poor way Infiniti put the car together. I was almost shouted down in that forum becasue those who worship their G-35 and who are in denial of its flaws would never hear of such a heresy. I had a second engine put in my car becasue of oil consumption and my mechanic did a better job of integrating my transmission with my engine than the manufacturer did with the original engine that came with my car.

Yet, I love the G-35 inspite of its flaws. One way to enjoy that whistling noise better is to install a JWT charger with z-tube. It combines with the whistle noise to give the car an unusual race noise. Also, see if you can add a Stillen TD catback exhaust But before you do this, take the car to the dealership and see what they find. They could not find the cause of the whistle noise in mine. I am actually enjoying the whistle noise these days.

Don't ever hate your G for its flaws. Love it for those flaws. Note: Get a good G-35 mechanic and stick with that mechanic for the life of your G-35, if you can. My mechanic has moved from one dealership to another and I follow him wherever he goes.

thanks alot jacko. no the only reason why i brought it up was because i wanted to make sure it wasnt a severe problem. i love my g like nothing else especially that the car i had previous to it was a 2001 mitsubishi galant 4cyl with 100 hp to the front wheels. one question about the pop charger.. where do you buy the filter cleaner? and does it have to be oiled every once in a while?

Have you returned to the dealer to get the whistling noise checked out?Might be something simple, loose etc? I would do that prior to doing any mods.

I also have an 07 g35 5at with only 1500 miles on her, i've never heard a whistle sound coming from the engine but then again i drive with music playing...is this a known problem with the way the car was put together or is it just on some models, next time i'll drive with the radio off and see if i can hear it

Nismodan, have you put on an intake, in particular the POP Charger? If so, that's most likely why. If its not occurring with an intake, then something might be going on as the stock intakes don't make that sound. The reason I say this is because adding a POP Charger isn't going to make it better or allow you to enjoy it more or whatever. Have it checked out if anything.

Also, my other question is, does this sound occur only the first time you shift from 1st > 2nd, or every time? If it does this the first time after start up, is it a whistling noise or is it more of a whurr noise or grinding noise? If this is the case, its your ABS brakes doing a self-check.

If you buy the combo set on everythingg35.com, you get the POP Charger, the Z-tube, and filter oil. It comes pre-oiled for you. You simply clean it with water and a water based cleaner such as 409 or Shout. Knowing when to change it--you take a flashlight and shine from the inside and if its dull thru the filter, time to wash it.
