Car: Not a 240 =) Thinking of getting one again...

Post

I just replaced my battery since my old one was basically DEAD! anyways... now that the car is running again, it just doesnt feel the same. The car's response is soo slow, it hesitates alot, and just feels like the car lost alot of power. Any idea what caused this?

might want to check ur connections to the battery and make sure u selected the correct type of battery. also it could possibly be a problem with the altenator. how old was ur battery that just died?

oh and would a bad alternator do this?

Like when im crusing arund with my sound system on (2 subs and a amp) in the morning when i try to start the car, it wont start right away as usual but rather trying 2 times or so to get it start.

I'm pretty sure its a bad alternator... but i dont know anything ;)

this is realy a shot in the dark cuz I have no idea what could cause your problem, but maybe something happened to the ECU when you disconnected the battery. again, I am just talkin out my a$$ cuz I don't know how the nissan ECU works, but why not at least throw that idea out there. maybe the ECU got reset and you have to take steps to re-acclimate it.Bad alternator sounds good too, but wouldn't he have been having that problem before he took the old battery out too?

Well, one easy way to diagnose it - shut off all the accessories and then see if it makes a difference.

2 subs and an amp can be a big load on a small 4 cyl battery like that, especially if you are bumpin' a city block in the morning. :)

If it's hard to start when cold sound like the spark plugs arn't getting enough power to get hot enough to start the car. Make sure that your battery is putting out enough CCA's. I'm not sure what it's supposed to be though.

its pretty damnn hot here tho hehe.... but um yeah... im pretty sure that cuz of my sound system draining so much power from the battery is causing the car to start after few tries but still... i just dont get how i lost power...

Maybe bigger alternator will cure the problem? or maybe a battery capacitor (sp?) will help with the sound system?

yea i was just gonna suggest adding a capacitor to ur system so u wont drain the battery as easily. how many watts r u running on through ur amp?

ive heard of this happening before: take an ohm meter and check the resistance between the negative post on the battery, (right on the post, not on th cable), and the engine block. the number you get should be pretty damn low. im talking like 1-10ohms. if it's higher, clean the battery bost and cable contact, or replace the cable entirely. let me know

If you car feels sluggish it is not the battery or the alterantor. Starting a car requires way more power than running it will ever take. A bad battery or alternator will give you starting problems, not lack of power problems.

There could be several things causing your problem. If this started when you changed the battery then the computer may not have fully relearned yet. Give it a good number of complete drive cycles and see if the problem persists. Then check basic things like has your fuel economy dropped? etc.
