Problem with Temp gauge, it goes all the way up when I turn the key

When I turn the key my auto meter water temp gauge goes all the way up, could it be the sensor or is it something else?

is it grounded at the sensor like it's supposed to be? There's a screw on the side of the water hose adapter that needs to be grounded..
