Problem with tachometer...

I have a problem with my S14 tach... around 3k rpm it starts to jump around, and settles down after about 4k. Its not really a huge issue right now, since I'm auto, but I won't be next summer, so I'll need a working tach then. I'm thinking something is screwed up internally, but I don't really want to have to replace the whole thing... :(

could the speed sensor have a messed up rom range, have u done anything to the speedo lately

Ive never touched it. I bought the car about 2 months ago now, and the guy said it had always been like that since he purcased it 2 years before... :(
