I have a slight problem with my factory sunroof. It will slide open but the motor wont close it, and it wont flip up anymore. It started the other day when I went to close it and heard a pop and the window wouldn't go forward. When I got out and looked at it, I noticed that the cable was out of its track and no longer connected to the glass. After I ran the switch a few times , the cable reset itself in the track but it still wont close the glass. In order for me to close the glass I have to grab ahold of the glass and pull forward while running the switch in the usual manner (close). Also when it is all the way forward the back end of the glass wont raise up to the roof line. it is down just a little bit. Any ideas of what it is or how to fix it? My FSM wasn't much help. Can anyone tell me how you take the sunroof out/apart? I couldn't figure that out either. I appreciate any help I get.-Bill

sorry for the delayed answer ,didnt catch your post the other day.

your track is toast, to get it out you need to remove the head liner first then you can gain access to the bolts holding the assembly in.

Heres the price for the part you need. sit down before clicking this link.

I know your a Nissan Tech or something but I honestly don't think its the track I just think the cable needs new ends or a new bracket or something. It still moves forward and back fine, which tells me the track is fine. Not trying to be an @$$ just my opinion of what I saw.

Is removing the headliner the only way to get the sunroof apart? because the FSM doesn't even say how to do that, that I saw at least. -Bill

There Was a tsb for the sunroof cables for the pathfinder and the maxima, It was a repair kit to fix cable binding in the track. The cables are a different length then the ones in yours but you could possibly adapt them to work with yours, not sure though, have never attempted it. We dont see to many 240's with sunroof issues.

The only way to get to the sunroof tracks is to drop your headliner. all the track assembly bolts are from the top of the track, The nuts and bolts that hold it to the car are from the bottm [above the head liner]. the only way to access the service bolts on the track is to drop it down.

Great that sounds like a lot of fun. How hard will that be to do by myself?

its really not that bad, just take your time ,keep your hands clean so you dont get any of the sunroof grease on your trim or more importantly your headliner.

when you do it you need to romove all your upper pillar trim so it wil drop down most of it just pops off as its only held in by clips. you will have to unbolt the upper anchor for the seat belt on your b-pilar.

To pop ot off should I use a screw driver or something, or will my hand work just as good? Do I have to worry about the part around the tweeters? Will the header liner just drop down then or is it attached some how (glue, screws, clips)? What size bolts will I be running into under there so I know I'll have them ready? Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure. Thanks for all your help. -Bill

the bolts holding the seat belt upper anchor is a 14mm, all others will be 10mm and phillips screws.

The visors need to come off ,their pivot hooks, all the upper pilar trims including the ones at either side of the windshield[where your tweets are] The tweets are attached to the frame not the trim so you dont have to worry about them. If you have any grap handles monted to the headliner above the doors they need to come off. IIRC the 240 doesnt have grab handles. You will also need to pop the lense off the dome light and remove the 2 phillips screws holding it in. What I use to get the trim panels off is a wide putty knife[more of a surface area to pry with] and is doesnt maul the surface of the trim that way.

The headliner it self is held up by the trim components and is not attached with any retainers. once you pull the last trim peice off it will simply fall down. To ease the removal of it fully recline the front seats.

and obviously i was wrong about the headliner clips. You can skip the rear seat removal and work around that, what you after is to get the side trims off and the rear seat belt anchor bolts.

Ok thats just an allen key right? I was wandering if the liner comes down easy, how hard does it go back in?

its easier going back in as you know what all has to be put back on. The mirror should be held to the roof with phillips screws, you have to pop the cover off to gain access to the screws.
