Problem with steering wheel audio controls

The steering wheel audio controls on my 2001 I-30 are intermittent. All the buttons either work, or all the buttons dont work. About 90% of the time everything is ok, but the other 10% none of the buttons work at all, but the controls on the radio work fine. Any ideas?
