problem with sr20de popping sound from exhaust then dieing

any opinions are appreciated.

i put a rwd sr20de into a 93 240sx and have been running it without a cat, just downpipe till i get one.

the first night it drove and idled fine, just alittle popping between gears and every once in a while, then on the highway the next day it started popping really bad and continuos and loosing power. till i was on the side of the road and it would not start.

i had the o2 sensor unpluged, which i wired in and put in a new ecu i was going to do anyway.

this did not help, still problem occurs.

the engine runs with slightly eratic idle for about 15-20 min and gets worse till it starts popping and pops worse and worse till it dies and won't start for a while.

i have done this 3 times to try to get it fixed and it always starts popping from the exhaust.

i cleaned the mafs today, no help.

any thoughts?

What other upgrades do you have? Fuel system or anything like that?'

Sounds like it gets worse as the engine gets hotter, are you having overheating problems at all? I really havent heard of this before so I can only suggest looking for loose hoses and bad sensors. You also might not have adequate back pressure because of running just a downpipe, I know my KA ran like **** without an exaust.

no no upgrades. i have a long coil wire from the pass. side to the driverside, like 3'. so i didn't have to rewire the ignitor and coil to the other side.

i don't think it is the coil wire. i tried some things and the only thing left is the distributor. which i have started another thread about called "what would happen if......" if it where the timing i think it would be a constant thing, not run for 15 min then start popping and die. it doesn't idle good either.

i just can't figure this out
