Hey, I was wondering why this could be happening,on the Daytime running lights, only the drivers side turns on, if I give the passengers side a smack, it turns on sometimes. If I turn the lights on, it works always, then I turn them off and the DRL on the passenger side is off, even if it was on before. Also, the drivers light is much brighter when the pass. light is out. What could this be? A ground maybe? Where does the ground wire attach to the body?

okay, so I found that there is a black box behind the battery against the fender, if I give this a tap, the lights will work normally for a while, but then randomly stop working. could this box have anything to do with it or is it just fluke?

I dunno, you start the car, and dont touch anything. The headlights are on, but they are dim, whatever that is called.

so today I took a closer look at it, was going to replace the black box behind the battery (headlight module?), and go from there, but couldnt get a factory replacement. I swapped the bulbs and the problem followed, I realized I had an HID light that was almost exact from my old S13 H4's, replaced this and it seems to be okay so far, only tried it twice though.

Try swapping the bulbs left and right and see if the problem follows, if so, buy new bulbs. Also, a hint that would have helped me, to get the bulbs out easily, pull out all visible bolts and screws, standing at front of car, pull corner light towards you, it pops right out with a little force, you can see the attachment with a treble light, it helps if you pry with a screwdriver on the attachment. Or you could smash your fingers with a hammer until they are small enough to fit in that space, but I dont advise this.

its the daytime light module and is only in the canadian models. maybe it is only a loose solder joint inside

here's a little update, I putin a new headlight, and it worked for about a day. Than Daytime Running light issues. So I checked it out again today. I found that if I grab the little black cox and shake it a little, they turn on slowly. So I am going to replace this and go from there.

Can I take one out of a 91 with daytime running lights, and have it fit? Also, where is this part located on the S13's? A new one is $187 and has to be sent from toronto.

i dont think the s13 has one. see if your solder joints are loose inside.

Sorry for bumping this from the dead, but these control units seem to fail quite frequently, so I wouldn't buy it used. I called the dealer to see how much it costs, and wanted to give the part number (located on the control unit casing) to the lady on the phone, and she said "let me guess" and she literally repeated the part number over the phone... She actually had it memorized. I told her it must be a pretty common problem, and she said yes.

So the pricing for it is $238 CAD new (f*** insane), and with my Nissan discount, dropped to $197 (which is still a BS price). So to fix this issue, I just took the casing off, and soldered some metal on the cracked solder points, and now it works perfectly.

So if you guys ever have any issues, take the case off (no BS clips or whatever, it just slides off)and solder all the weak looking solder joints and you'll be good to go!

Oh also, do the same thing with the S14 drivers side window amp. Those solder points start to crack, and in hot summer days, you can't bring the window down.

Jagstang... OUT.
