Ok. So I'm having a major problem with the factory paint job. I have an '08 black g37 that is a year and a half old. Basically, bugs have wreaked havoc on the front and hood of my car. I drove a mustang for 8 years before i bought this car, and I never had one problem with the paint job. I live in South Florida, so bugs are terrible, but this just doesn't seem right. Has anyone else had this problem, and do you think it's possible the paint from the factory was bad?

I'm not sure what your asking??

There have been many complaints regarding Infiniti/Nissan paint as it seems to chip easily. Even tghe grill seems to pit easily too. Apparently the paint used is very soft.

As for bug guts...what has that got to do with Infiniti?? Have your tried a bug remover? Do you wash and wax regularly? Do you leave the bugs on your car long before washing off??

Since bugs have exoskeletons you have two issues. One is the issue with 'Joe not having the guts to do that again' but bug hits at higher speeds can also damage the paint in much the same way as running into sand or any other abrasive substance. Jayne Mansfield found out the hard way about the power of bugs.

You might want to check into getting that 3M film put on the front of your car.

I would make sure I had a very good coat of wax, and make sure I washed the bugs off ASAP. Florida does have killer bugs. I drove down there in my S2000 one time. I had promised my daughter that we would put the top down when we got close to our destination. NOT!!! Bugs where hitting the car and they were huge.

My 08 came with the 'invisible bra'. As far as bugs it has its own issues, much the same as with bird droppings or cherries. That is it is affected by all of these and the fix isn't all that easy to 'polish' out. It does protect against chipping.

I realize for a go-down-the-road car, those 3M sheets have their purpose, but I worry about something that you keep for the long run and how easy/hard is it to replace it as it does fade, check and yellow with time?

As to the bugs and the chipping issue I believe the problem is actually the opposite, the paint is harder than normal for some reason and therefore chips very easily. I have seen this on my own G with it's 63000 miles of use, the front end looks like I just finished the 24 Hours of Le Mans. (okay, I can dream can't I?)

I know that truckers down that way normally coat the front of the vehicles with Pam Spray to keep the guts of the bugs from eating into the paint. None of the normal coatings, wax or anything seem to help with the "acids" that are in some of those bugs. And buffing it out isn't an option as the paint is actually gone. I realize that covering the front of your G with Pam is out there, but on a lengthy trip or during the worst bug months, it might be worthwhile.

My 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe (White Pearl paint) had a pin point raised bump on the trunk lid just above the rear bumper. I noticed it every time I washed it and wiped off what appeared to be a small amount of rust. I thought it wasn't enough to make an issue of unless the spot got bigger. Well finally I was washing the car one day when the bump flaked right off. I went to the Infiniti dealer and asked to have it fixed under warranty and he brushed me off saying that it looked like a rock chip and he wouldn't be able to convince his rep to fix it. I went to a paint shop and he looked at it through a magnifying glass and found another small spot on the trunk lid that looked like it was starting to bubble and rust as well. He called the Infiniti dealer for me and they gave him the runaround too, stating that this is not a known issue and that he would ask about it at an upcoming conference. Well that's not customer service if you ask me. I'm trading in both of my cars (2002 Altima) and will not be buying any more Nissan products.

Did you try another dealer? I wouldn't make such a rash decision on a problem that might cost $80 to fix.

I have a 2007 G35 Coupe (Black) and the paint was bubbled up in multiple places when I bought it with 16 miles on it. I took it to the dealer and they tried wet sanding it out and that didn't work so they ended up having to repaint my brand new car. They didn't do a very good job either. But anyways there is another spot so I am probably going to take it in again and complain some more. This will be the second time excluding the fact that they replaced my grill because it was peeling and chipping off. The dealership does seem like they are willing to work with me but I hate having these problems with a brand new car. Not new anymore but you know what I mean.
