problem with new xenon HID bulbs

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

So after swapping my parking lights and fog lights with LED bulbs, my OCD officially couldn't handled the difference in color temperature between my stock lo-beam Xenon HID bulbs (4300K) and the other bright white ones. I bought a pair of 6000k xenon HID bulbs and swapped them, now I have a problem.

the new bulbs now require several tries of on/off switches to stay on. Basically, when I first start the car cold, the headlights would flash, then die. I switch them off, switch them back on again, flash then die. I have to repeat this process for 3 or 4 times for the HID bulbs to heat up and stay on for good. Once they are on for good, I haven't experienced any problem with them dying/turning-off while driving.

I really don't know what this problem is, the car was factory equipped with xenon HIDs with AFS, all I did was plug out the stock bulbs and replace them with new ones. If anyone can shed some lights would be much appreciated.

I had the same problem you are encountering with the stock HID set-up. I wanted my low-beam HIDs to match my newly installed 6000k HID fogs. I tried some generic D2S bulbs and they didn't even fire up.

I then did some research and found this statement about our ballasts, on a Nissan forum: "Matsushita Gen IV and V are notorious to only work with OEM bulbs such as Osram or Philips"

So I purchased on eBay, Philips 6700k Flash Star D2S bulbs. Been happy ever since. The light output and the look are exactly what I was looking for.

Hope this helps!

I had halogen stock and changed to 4300 HID from retrofitsource and love them. I like them to not have any hint of blue, but I guess i maybe could have gone up to 5000 and still not have any blue tint, but that isn't why I am posting... I just wanted to thank GarnetRedQX50 for the information for everyone else. This might not be the most active forum, but the members kick a$s here and always seem to come through.

Buy the Morrimoto D2S bulbs from theretrofitsource.com I bought them for me EX and they work with the OEM ballast. They also only cost $50 for a set compared to the $180 for Philips. I had bought the Philips for my Lexus and honestly can't tell a difference in output of quality...So I will continue with Morrimoto.
