I have a 1997 240sx that i recently noticed has had strange acceleration problems. Im not entirely sure what is going on but i will do my best to explain. Basically when i accelerate in any gear more than lets say 3k rpm and go beyond half throttle, the rpms jump to redline instantly. I know my wheels are spinng out too, but its weird it never felt like this before. But the problem is is that im not going faster or anything like that. It feels like, you know when you are driving an auto and it down shifts for you? like that but im driving a 5spd. And this might sound like im sticking the clutch or something like that, i know my car i have had it almost 2 and a half years and just started to act this way. Also i went in and cleaned the MAFS to see if that was the problem, it wasnt. Here is some more info.

1997 240sx Base model -KA24DEcurrently 17x7 wheels with yokohama avs int. 215/45Open difflast year installed aem air intakeBasically everything else stock

Any help would be very very much appreciated.

The clutch may not be engaging properly. The symptoms you described kinda relates to my ride. When I'm driving in any gear, for example 1st gear. Step on clutch, get in gear, let off clutch, launch the car. Then I rev it up to around 3,000 RPMs as I'm driving, then needle will then jump up to around 5,000 yet I'm not accelerating. I think I figured out the problem, I could possibly have installed my clutch disc incorrectly and glazed the pads of the disc. Hope this info helps.
