Ok so basically I am in the middle of swapping my open diff with a vlsd from a 300zx it is a 5 bolt pattern, I bought the lsd and matching shafts, from what I have read this swap should be no prob as long as I have the lsd the cover from my old diff and the 5bolt shafts but the shafts seem to be much longer than the stock one and will not fit under the car with the lsd, I thought I did all my research but I guess I was wrong. So am I missing something? Why won't the shafts fit under the car help

300zx axles are too long. If you want to use the shorter 300zx axle on the passenger side that will work but the correct axles for that swap are the 5 bolt j30 axles. The 300zx axles will not seal on the passenger side wheel bearing unless you use 300zx knuckles or from what I've seen you might be able to use a new 300zx axle/wheel bearing seal on the 240sx nuckle but haven't tried it yet. I just went through this same problem last week! Lol.

^ Correct.

Any local junkyard should have a J30. I use car-part.com for those kind of searches.

Thanks I will try and get my hands on some j30's and for everyone's knowledge I took apart the shafts and the knuckle assembley on the 300zx shafts are totally different than the ones on the 240.

This may be a stupid question but forgive me. The 5 lug axels that you are referring to is that with the 5 lug hubs for the wheels? I still have the factory four lug hubs but I want to put the lsd in. Is this possible?

Yes. Has nothing to do with the hubs.

In other words, one can swap in a VLSD and different axles and still maintain 4-lug hubs. :)
