Hello Friends,

I recently moved from US to Canada (quebec) and as a part of registration process my 2003 G35 had to go through a provincial inspection.

The car failed the inspection which i got done an hr ago. Everything is ok however the hood seem to scratch with the body panel on the right side corner....just by the windshield when you are trying to open the hood. There is no sign of dent or damage anywhere in the body panel or the hood.

Here are my questions.

1. My car has never ever been in an accident and i have always got the oil change done through infiniti. My most recent oil change was on march 17th and i am pretty sure Infiniti tech guys would have noticed the hood scratching if that problem existed then. Can this problem arise all of a sudden?

2. A local body shop looked it it and quoted 300 $(canadian) to fix it. Is'nt that a little too high??

I know that this question is tough to answer without pictures or video. I am at work and i am unable to concentrate on anything and i am really pissed off at the situation. I will try to get some pics and post it this eve so that someone can help me and let me know if i can fix it myself.

In the meantime all your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks, V

Ok...i am really confused. I came home and opened the hood a few times and everything appeared to be ok. The next day i went for the inspection and they Ok'd it.

I am not sure how the problem started and how it vanished by itself.

I was unable to post the photo's as promised coz i when i got home from work, there was no prob with the hood....weird!!!!!

Even though i did not get any replies, i see that a few members looked at the post and hence the reply to keep you updated.

read ur post lets see if i understand this you hood was rubbing on the side panel of the car? if this is correct and the problem vanished by itself pop your hood and check the hinges make sure the hinge inst worn out or broken for soem reason and check the blots that bolt the hood to the hinge and the bolts that bolt the hinge to the car itself make sure they are all tight if they are loose the hood could be migrating back and forth by itself .

Or there is a frame problem where the front end assembly moves inward based on load and position.

yes perry makes a good point you check around the frame area makes sure the entire front clip of the car i sproperly secured somthing could be shifting due to bolts that broke or came loose for whatever reason
