Hey guys, anybody else have a fuel gauge that doesn't work, although all of the rest of the gauges work fine? My warning light will come on to tell my I'm running low, but the gauge doesn't work. First off, I have a 92 hatch. I searched around on here but all I could find was some stuff dealing with aftermarket gauges and problems with the entire cluster. Can I replace just that part of the cluster? or is there a fuse or plug somewhere I can check? Please help, thanks!

Actually, it is probably smarter to do the stuff in my second post , first. Avoid opening the fuel lines for no reason.

This info is in the factory service manual(FSM).EL section pg43-44. See my signature if you dont have it yet.Observe safety practices when dealing with fuel ie release fuel pressure and undo negative battery terminal.

Your fuel pump is accessed in the hatch. Easy to get to. Inspect the float to make sure it is in good condition. no holes or bent. Perform the test sdescribed in the attached table. You need a multimeter. digital are best . 20 bucks. there will be different resistance reading depending on postion of float. check to see that these are right. You are checking resistance between "G" and "E" of the fuel pump plug.

When you connect Terminal "B" to ground, you are saying the resistance is low so tank is full and gauge should respond accordingly. You can also test resistance between "C"(terminal 10 of instrument cluster plug) and ground. It should read very low resistance ie the wire is continuous(unbroken) from instrument cluster fuel pump. Observe safety practices when dealing with fuel ie release fuel pressure and undo negative battery terminal.

My first suspicion would be the swing arm with the float on it. If it gets bent or stuck in any way, the ecu will not register the amount of fuel in the tank. My gauge wasn't working for the longest time, and later I figured out that the arm had gotten stuck when I upgraded to a walbro.
