The fan speed selector in my 1996 240SX SE has suddenly lost the three lower speed settings... the fan is either off, off, off, off, or full speed! The A/C system will kick on in the lower settings like normal, but the fan doesn't run until "4".

I'm thinking there's a resistor bank or something that's fallen out of the circuit somehow. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

ThanksDan

There is a fan resistor in the blower motor box. It burns out and the lower speeds go through the resistor and high bypasses it. You will need to replace the resistor and the fan motor. The fan is drawing to much current and burning out the resistor. If your mechanicely inclined you might be able to disassemble the motor, clean up the brush contact area on the armuture, lube the bushings with 3-in- 1 oil and you might not have to replace the fan motor.

Thanks! I think I can handle that one. I wasn't sure where the resistors were located, I think the blower box will be alot easier to handle than trying to dissassemble the dash control unit.

Thanks again! -Dan
