I agree. Air it out. We got a lot of rain and wind in NorCal over the holidays. I was in Santa Cruz parked for a few days near some eucaliptus trees. My car looked like it had been in a battle zone.
If you've got a 90-96 Q it's pretty easy to remove all the trim components around and below the shifter to let things air out. You can speed up the drying by leaving a shop lamp on in the car overnight. Don't put it too close to anything that could melt, and keep what your trying to dry out around 90-100 degrees. Wouldn't hurt to also unclip any harness connectors you can see while the lamp is on as one or more of them may be wet on the inside.
Don't feel bad, you're not the first person to post in this forum about a rain drenched center console.
