Electric motors aren't usually the reason for window failures. The motors do burn up, sure, but the root cause is generally a window off track or some part of the mechanism that needed preventative maintenance and never got it. You have to remember that the mechanism in the door is subject to extreme heat and weather. You have to clean and grease things on a bi-yearly basis.
I recently bought a 2007 M45 that has a lot of miles on it. My driver-side window is slower than all the others and the window cocks forward when rolling up. If I were to continue rolling the window up and down, knowing this issue, the motor would surely burn up. I will take it apart this month and let you guys know how it goes.
