HiWhen i press my clutch it wont bounce back up and when i press it i cant put the car in gear. My friend and I thought that the clutch went out but we asked an auto mechanic and he said that its the clutch master cylender fault and he estimated the price to fix it for $400. Is it the master cylenders fault? if it is, it doesnt seem that $400 is a normal price to fix it.

It osunds like a problem with the master or slave cylinder. Without actually seeing the car its hard to tell, but 400 would be a fair estimate with parts and labor. if its just parts than forget that cause you'd be adding at least 120 for labor.

But basically reasons for the clutch pedal not to come back: You have air in your lines, your master or slave cylinder isn't working, something attaching the pedal to the slave or the slave to the master is broken.

same exact prob happened to me...

go under the car and on the transmission you'll see the slave cylinder, it looks like this...

check to make sure the rubber boot isnt leaking, mine was and the pressure was lost in the lines so it wont come back, idk how much it cost for labor to fix it since I just swapped my motor, but the part is only $40.

If that doesnt do it then it might be the master cyliner. Thats this part:

It's under the hood in the top right corner. Make sure that has fluid in it to the correct level.

To fix it yourself just replace the parts and bleed the clutch by pouring fluid (DOT Brake Fluid) into the master cylinder reservoir and pumping the shyt out of the clutch pedal to get the fluid to fill the lines. Once pressure starts to come back you'll feel more resistance on the pedal and then it will come back to life.

Alos, you can do this, it'll cut the bleed time to nearly nothing, but if you do be wicked careful:

good luck and welcome to nico

Try doing this mod before anything else, i had the exact same problem.http://garage.projectraine.com....htmlI did the mod and swapped the slave cylinder, no problems to this day

This is the Clutch dampener, it has the tendency to jam and cause your type of problem.

Take a look at the clutch pedal and make sure the bracket for the pedal didn't break. My friends dad had that problem with his 240sx.

i had the exact same problem w/ mine...changed the slave and viola! ...be extremely carefull if you remove the dampener not to pinch any of the clutch line because if you do it will jam up the fluids and you will have to get more lines. have your friend look at the slave cylinder and see if the piston is pushing out whenever you hit the clutch. if it isnt then check for air and / or leaking lines. i changed out my clutch master cylinder in my project car too. It takes about 30 minutes to an hour.

have fun and welcome to nico

so me and my friend changed the master cylinder and try to bleed it out, the clutch gets heavier(harder to press) but still nothing, should we just change the slave? i checked it and when we were bleeding it out and the slave bounces back up but still we have no clutch and cant put the car in gear

dude it's ur slave cylender. same thing has happened to my and my friends a few times. was ur car converted to 5spd? if not, then their should be a little box below the car that the clutch hardline goes into, then a line from there to ur slave cylinder. make sure u bleed that aswell. or, u can remove it and hook the clutch hardline to the softline than directly to the slave cylender. the box is not necessary. gl.
