Problem with automatic door locks

I have a 1999 G20t. About 2 years ago, the automatic door locks started operating erratically when I tried to use the remote control. Sometimes the locks failed to respond to the remote. After a while, unlocking the doors using the remote became almost impossible. Locking usually takes several tries with the remote, but is not as difficult as unlocking. However, I can always get it to work manually using the key. I've noticed that this typically happens when the car has been parked for a while. If I've been successful using the remote after several attempts, it will work correctly the first time if I immediately try it again. I started using the spare remote that came with the car but the same thing happened. The Infiniti dealership cleaned and checked the remote and verified that it was working properly. It seemed to be a little better at first, but unfortunately, the same problem returned within a few days. Has anyone had this same problem?

Sounds like a dumb question, but have you replaced the battery in the remote?

Yes, I've tried that too on both the remotes I have. The dealership also cleaned the contacts in the remotes. To some degree, it helps but it still is very erratic. I wonder if it is the receiver? I've had them look into this problem when I've taken the car in for other maintenance (eg, oil change, check ups, etc) and they always focus on the remotes.

My Sentra does that from time to time... if I ever figure it out, I'll let you know.
