I am wondering if any you guys might have a solution for the problem I'm facing. I was replacing the thermostat and putting the housing back on when I torqued down too hard on the bolt (bottom one, naturally) and broke off the lip of the water inlet!! (the part of the block the bolt goes into) I thought I could JB Weld it, but no..I've tried it 2x and it has not worked. As you can imagine, there is a massive leak and the car cannot be driven to get fixed. Any suggestions? I gues this is an iron block- magnet sticks.

You're not the only one. A buddy of mine did that to his DOHC a couple months ago. Go to a junkyard or find someone parting out the same engine and replace it.

Thanks for the response! And when you say, "replace it", are we talking replacing the block? It all seems to be attatched.

I wish I was..I'm talking about the part the thermostat goes into, then the part with the hose (thermostat housing) bolts onto this with 3 bolts. It appears to be part of the block. Hell... it is part of the block..

Yes..a welder. just wonder if they can weld it while the block is still in the car. All that heat, all those wires.. when it happened, I thought I had broken off the bolt in the hole. I got mad and then when I found out what really happened..I got really mad. not good. thanks for confirming my suspicions though.

I am starting to think if I replace the timing cover, this will fix the problem with the water inlet. Any truth to this?

replacing the timing cover should do it... but that will be an interesting time. b/c there isn't a whole lot of space and to my knowledge you're going to have to remove a decent bit on the front of the engine to remove and replace that cover... good luck though!

thanks..yeah. no room in there. Right now, I'm getting a welder to come look at it to see if he can weld it without removing the motor. He is thinking JB Weld would do it, had I done it right..(I didn't clean it good enough he thinks), so he might try that if welding is not possible.. Or, the 3rd option, replacing that front cover. Looks hard to do, the part is 200 bucks, lets hope welding or JB Weld will work. I'll keep you guys posted. Can't believe no one has done this..guess I'm the 1st..lol
