problem with 03 spev-v

Hey guys.. I have a question.. maybe you can help me out.. Well last night I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden my car just shut down. It happens every once in man... I don't know its pretty random.. but not like this.. I was at pretty high speed.. I mean I was on the freewya! In the left lane! And well it stoped. I was prob goin like 70 and the carjust locked and shut off so I pulled aside on the left shoulder.. everything had power.. the lights radio...etc.. it would crank but wouldn't wanna start. I was there for awhile and it didn't turn on until maybe 35 min later? When it did it made a weird noise as I drove off.. like something was scraping in the engine it was really odd. When it happened before.. I changed the crank shaft sensor.. and ever since then it was fine. Until last night . Any ideas?? I can't keep having this.. I can't take it to the dealer because come on.. it happens every once in awhile.. they will turn me away.. So... any suggestions to try? I don't really wanna get rid of it! Sorry for this long novel! Any smoke? Did the SES/CEL come on?

Could be a number of things. Have you had the recalls and TSB's taken care of? Call a dealer and have your VIN handy to make sure you've had everything taken care of.

man.. i wanna say yes i did see smoke but it happend so fast ...if i did see the smoke it was coming from the back..not under the hood.. well my check engine light has been on because of the intake i have on it.. when i hook it up to check all it says was the high rpm thing..due to the intake...but even before the intake the car would just randomly shut off..thats when i changed the sensor and things were alright..but then now..its back. its happend i wanna say already 4 times... but not while i was goin 70-80..

Keep an eye out for smoke out of the tailpipe.

High rpm thing? You shouldn't have any codes from an intake.

I had a similar problem with my 2002 Spec V. One day I was driving and the car lost all power, it was barely moving over 5 mph. All of a sudden the power came back and the car drove fine. A few months later the issue came back and it lasted longer the second time around (first time it was for a couple min). I took it to the Nissan dealer where my dad worked, and they diagnosed the problem to be the alternator had slowly been burning itself out for some reason. They fixed the issue in Nov. '08, and so far everything's been good.

Sounds like the car has never had the 712 ECM reprogram recall done. This typically cures this issue. I'd take it to the dealer and have them run the VIN on it to see if any open recalls exist.
