well, i replaced my thermostat and used the rtv ish to make a gasket. it failed most likely cause i didn't do it right....this isn't the problem though, after i let it cure for the 24 hours i let the car run to flush out the air in the system and no leak so i figured it was ok. i went out for a rather long drive and after about 20 min i noticed smoke coming from under the hood. i pull into the nearest Q.T. and park. there is coolant pouring outta the thermostat housing.....i drive to the closest friends house and let the car cool for a few hours before i strat the drive for home. the temp is probally around 30F out side so i figure i'll be ok. but about half the way home my car starts to surge horriable at idle going from about 900rpm to 2000rpm. what the hell did i do??!?!

When you lose a lot of coolant or all of it the car does some crazy things. I know mine did.Idle goes crazy etc.
