Problem: Steering wheel Audio controls for 2010 SE-R

For those of you who want what I wanted (steering wheel mounted audio controls on your SE-R), long story short, there is no happy ending to this story yet. Here's the ebay auction with the pics of what I bought:

They came off of a slightly older Sentra.

So, where to begin? I guess I'll tell you a little about my vehicle. I've got a new 2010 SE-R with CVT, fully loaded (tech package and whatever the other one was), and I have less than 5000km on it. I live in Canada, and thus my car is a Canadian model (if it matters). For whatever reasons, Nissan decided it made complete sense to tease the SE-R owners by not including the audio controls on the steering wheel. Yes, we have the cruise control, but not the audio functions.

It's January, and it's cold up here. After about an hour and a half, I came in from the installation, and it was -10 celsius outside. My toes were freezing and are still numb. Anyway, I ought to point out that the actual installation was VERY easy (for those of you who are interested). All you really need is a 10mm socket wrench, phillips head, and a really small flat head screw driver. I went through the installation procedure twice. The second time around, I felt like I could do everything in 15 minutes...which I did.

Just to clarify, the controls I bought from ebay came with BOTH audio and CC functions. I replaced my stock CC with the new AC/CC steering wheel controls.

So if installation was so easy, what exactly is my problem now? Getting the parts on is easy. Plugging it in is easy. But the audio controls don't work. All plugs are properly secured and grounded. Here is the slew of problems that I need answers to now:

1) Cruise control works perfectly fine,
2) Audio controls light up, but do absolutely nothing other than making the steering wheel look more complete,
3) when in Drive, I put it to Manual (manumatic, whatever you call it) mode, and the paddle shifters don't work
4) when I turn off VDC, the "VDC OFF" light comes on, AND the "slipping tires" light comes on and stays on as well (you know that light right?)
5) horn works fine
6) no funky lights come on when I start-up the car

There you have it. What was seemingly a simple installation is now preventing me from sleeping. I need help. Help me theorize some solutions. I'll probably uninstall it and take pictures of the inner workings of the steering wheel later this week.

looking for updates

the 07-09 sentras have different controls than the 10+ so i think that could be the issue. i almost bought a set for an 09 but it looks different than my 12 and the seller said it does not work/fit my year either.
