I posted this in the online Mechanic area but i figured since its a CA might as post it here to see if anyone has experienced similar problems.

alright first i just wanna ask if anyone has heard of using a tractor battery in a 240.. cause i just got this coupe and the previous owner was using one although the battery doesnt seem to be the problem just curious if anyone has done this?

now the problem i'm having is that i go to start the car, key in everything turns on just fine seat belt goes back then i try to turn the car on and everything just dims out like it lost power and the engine hasnt even moved a bit no crank or anything. So i checked all the fuses, none of them are burned out and i checked that button around the clutch pedal and click it in and no difference. So then i get a friend to try to jump my car and no difference there either. Ao i dont really know what it can be.. Anyone have any ideas what i should try?

a CA has been swapped into it but i got that all running and starting up and drove it around a couple times before this problem happen so idk.. On the other hand there was some engine start button that the kid before me had wired up. Which i didnt know what it did until i started messing with it and pushed in the clutch and it started my engine once, but then later on when i went to try it again the next day it didnt start and was when the problems started so idk if maybe it has something to due with it or not.. maybe the ecu got fried..?

i know its long but i dont know what else to try.. thanks guys

i have a janky push button start that some guy wired in it before i had it. well he put a relay inbetween the starter and signal so I had to put in a button so it would start. so now when i turn the key to start it the same thing happens. u have to use the button starter or fix it.

Well I've tried to start it by clicking the button and nothing happens. Did yours used to work by turning the key and the button or only by using the button cause mine would work both ways. But i'll try to check on that relay thing you mentioned.. and what exactly did you do just replace the crappy button start with another button or did you add another button?? Thanks

I tore up the inside of my car following the wiring from the start button and it just get spliced directly into the wires coming from the key ignition there is no relay or fuse or anything.

Could it have something to do with the starter..? or could I have possibly messed up my ecu from some weird power spike or something?

any thoughts would be much appreciated.. thanks.

when i got mine it just had a relay between ignition and ignition signal. it went bad so instead of getting a new relay i just janked a button to start it. pull the starter and test it real fast cuz my ca starter was bad when i got it. check all starter connections and make sure ur battery is grounded good

yeah i went through and checked everything around the starter again and i got it running.. turns out it was just the connection to the solenoid that had came off since it seems to be pretty lose. glad i got it running sucks i looked every where first before just checking the starter connections.

See now arent you glad it was something simple as that! Now for the next time you run into a problem, remember to never overlook the obvious or skip the simple stuff. A lot of the times its somethings simple, often its not. If i were you id redo that start button or remove it completely. Glad you got the problem fixed!
