My car has been having problems starting lately....? Doesn't make any kind of noises, just wont start. I have to try repeatedly before it finally starts. Each time I drive it takes longer to start the car. I'm thinking it's either the ignition switch or the starter? HOW DO I TELL THE DIFFERENCE to find out which needs to be replaced? As far as condition of my car its pretty clean all around..?Just need a paint job... anyways its a s14a if ur wondering...?All post and commits will be greatly appreciated... THANKS A LOT

When you turn the key, do you hear a click coming from the general area of the starter?Remove the starter and have it checked at a parts store. It may be the solenoid giving out. Also, check the connections for both tightness and corrosion build-up. Power, earth at the battery and starter, check applicable fuses, you know the drill.Check the clutch interlock switch. Basically unplug it and jump the connector with a piece of wire.Lastly you may need to have the ignition switch itself checked out if all else fails. This is actually the order in which my starting problems have evolved. My new switch will be in tommorow morning. ($36 at Advance Auto)

Alot of people have this problem.Usually its one of 2 things.Starter Relay-or-Ignition Switch

9/10 its Ignition Switch

If you hear a clicking noise and no start thats usually low battery voltage due to bad battery or bad alternator, starter going bad (some people hear a constant whining sound with the car off usually means solenoid is staying on), or bad ground. It's rare for it to be a fuse unless you have the problem after you mess with wiring on your car. That's why you should always unhook the neg terminal...

look up starter in my tutorial link in my signature. visually check the interlock switch on your clutch pedal. get a multimeter.
