Problem Shifting from Park

I have a 1996 Nissan 240SX and recently started having problems shifting from park to any other gears. It is an automatic and the button just won't depress all the way. Sometimes if I play with it, it will go in all the way and shift. Does anyone know what the problem could be before I bring it in to the shop?:help

Does the S14 have a shift lock? Could be a problem with that...

have you ever had the transmission fluid changed?

the shifter mechanism is dirty. i would take the shifter off and clean out the shift button.
