I've been working on replacing my top and I have run into a problem and was hoping you guys could help me out. When putting the top into the 4th bow theres that retainer that needs to slide through to keep it held in, but the thing is i can't get the retainer to go back in. So i was wondering if anybody else had this problem when replacing their top. I didn't want to start a new thread for just this but i really need to get this top on so i can move on to other things.

For reference, if you're unsure of what I am talking about:

Thanks in advance.

Bump for Topless.. Anybody done a top replacement on their own?

Wish I could help more... Did you check out the FSM supplement for possible advice?

It's been so long since I replaced my top, is that the retainer that had a small screw in the center holding it in place?

I remember I had a hard time getting that same retainer in as well, but I'm not sure what I did to make it fit. Wish I could be more help.

BUMP for anyone else who may know.

That hand looks familiar!

I had to take my retainer to a grinder and slim it down. Most afetrmarket top manufacturers use a thicker plastic for the 4th bow clip and the plastic retainer won't slide in.

Once you can get it started and most of the way in, you'll need a good drift and hammer to knock it in the rest of the way.

Yea, we started to sand it down but still only got in an inch or two. But, i guess we'll keep sanding until it fits. Now that i know other people had to do it I feel more comfortable grinding on it.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
