problem pls help!!

hi, im having problems with my 91 240, of course you all know that it has the digital speedometer...now the problem is, that when its the engine is cold or not on operating temperatures... my speedometer doesnt work, or even the lights for the whole console (i do a lot of driving really early in the morning) now it comes on after the engine goes to normal temp. operation, but it affects the odometer as well...thats my main concern...i dont know how much mileage i actually have, and how much can i do per gallon....any info would be good....
