I have a 91 Nissan Pickup and was changing out Cracked KA24E motor with another one and the other motor came out of an Automatic pickup so i changed out the flywheel and I got it in the truck and had everything ready to do I crank check to make sure that it will crank and that I have all the vacuum lines and such on and to adjust the timing on the distributor and when I turned the key the starter just make a spinning noise as it was not engaging the flywheel also I got on the front of the motor to check to see the if the motor is still turning like it was supposed to be but it wasnt. It was acting like the motor was binded up with the transmission so comes the question.

If I am correct to think that the motor is binded up on the transmission is there something that I could have overlooked that has caused this and do I need to drop the transmission and reinstall to see if that loosens the motor? Or is it something major?

Also I didnt mess with the timing chain so that shouldnt be a problem right?

Sorry for the long message.

if motor was frozen to the trans it would make the truck jump. which starter did you use? was the starter matched to the flywheel? did the old and new motors have similar starter cutouts? there are multiple types of starter available for that application. if you have the wrong one it may just freespin like that. timing chain would not cause that.

The starter and the flywheel are the same off the old motor as for the starter cutouts they were similar but didn't really notice it also. And as I was wondering on if the motor and transmission were frozen together because when I was at the front of the motor and trying to turn the Harmonic Balancer it would not move the truck all it would do is tighten and loosen the harmonic balancer.

1)crank pulley bolt too looseput a breaker bar on it and whack with a hammer to tighten

2)unless you press the clutch the engine is locked to the input shaft of the trans by the clutch. put in gear and it is locked to the wheels.

tighten that crank bolt and turn the motor over by hand(clockwise) to be sure it spins.

I got it to free up the pressure plate must have just been a little wider and it was hanging on the bellhousing cause the motor to hang up.

Now that is fixed I have a severe overheating problem. New thermostat and radiator hoses, I know the fan clutch is bad, ran water through radiator and it didn't seem stopped up, the fan shroud was off and don't know if the water pump is bad. Also when the truck was overheating the radiator was hot on one side and cold on the other. It was overheating while driving it around with no hood on also.

Do you know where I can find a diagram on the vacuum hoses?

Any idea or help will be most appreciated.

hot on one side and cold on the other? did you bleed the air out? could be a stopped up radiator.
